Modern Splashbacks: Practical Protection Meets Design Impact
Splashbacks have come a long way from their purely practical roots. Once just a way to keep walls clean behind the hob, they’re now an integral part of kitchen design — often doubling as a bold visual feature. With a wide variety of materials, colours and finishes to choose from, splashbacks can be tailored to suit any style, from sleek and modern to warm and traditional.
Whether you’re going for something minimal or want to make a statement, the right splashback will protect your walls and elevate your kitchen’s overall aesthetic.
Splashbacks vs Upstands: What’s the Difference?
While both splashbacks and upstands protect your walls, they do so in different ways. Upstands run along the back of the worktop and are typically around 100mm high. They create a clean line between the worktop and wall and are great for preventing marks and splashes in low-impact areas.
Splashbacks, on the other hand, cover a larger area — usually from the worktop to the bottom of the wall units. They’re especially useful behind the hob and sink, where splashes are most likely. You can even mix materials for a custom look, such as combining a sleek glass splashback with stone upstands.
Choosing the Right Splashback Material
Splashbacks are available in a wide range of materials including:
- Toughened glass – heat resistant, easy to clean and available in any colour
- Natural stone – timeless and full of character
- Quartz or sintered stone – seamless, stylish and highly durable
- Tiles – a classic choice with endless design possibilities
- Metals – for a bold, industrial look

Glass Finishes to Suit Your Style
Glass splashbacks come in a range of finishes to suit different kitchen looks. For a softer appearance, sandblasting creates a matt texture that pairs well with modern matt cabinetry.
We also offer a selection of mirrored glass options in silver, bronze, smoke and antique finishes. These add depth and a touch of glamour to your kitchen.
Feeling bold? We can even supply crushed or cracked glass sealed between two solid panels — a striking design feature guaranteed to catch the eye.
